HOW TO SUPPORT EMPLOYEES TO MANAGE WORKLOAD AND STRESS

"Team work makes the dream work"

Don't worry, you've not stepped back into an 80's boardroom, but it's very true that when a team is working well, then we do achieve more.

As leaders, we sometimes get swamped in our own business as usual tasks and miss the key signs that team members are starting to struggle.

So we've got three great questions that you can ask in 121's with your team, to get the conversation on workload stresses started

Understanding how they feel

"How do you feel about your current workload? Is it manageable?"

Understanding the challenges

"Are there any specific stressors or challenges you're facing?"

Understanding the support needed

"What tools or support would help you manage your tasks more effectively?"

And what else…

🤝Encourage Regular Breaks

Remind employees to take short breaks throughout the day to recharge (make sure you do this one too!)

🤝Promote Time Management

Provide resources on prioritising tasks; there are some great free tools out there, including Trello, Microsoft To Do, or simply blocking time out in Outlook can help to stay organised.

🤝Foster Open Communication

Create a culture where employees feel comfortable discussing their stress and workload, and try to offer flexibility or resources where needed.

And finally, remember, you don't always have to 'fix' the problem for your employee, sometimes a listening ear is a great way to start.
